Tips for Maximizing your Travel Budget

Traveling brings so many great experiences, but it has become so expensive in the post-Covid era! Here are some of my tips for maximizing your travel budget.

Traveling to two countries for the price of one is one of the many ways you can maximize your travel budget this year, and also experience different cultures in a single trip. Many Airlines such as Aerlingus, IcelandAir, and COPA Airlines - to name just a few - make it possible for travelers like myself to visit two countries and pay the same amount or even less than you would for a trip to just one country.

I will give you an example: on my way to Amsterdam, Netherlands from Boston, United States I had a stopover in Dublin, Ireland. But my flight was the same amount as it would cost me to take a direct flight. In a two-for-one deal, I was able to enjoy a taste of local Irish cuisine, experience another culture, and make amazing memories for a fraction of what it would cost to travel to both locations on separate occasions.

Another tip is to choose countries that share a border or close to each other. Countries like Belgium and the Netherlands, France and Switzerland, Croatia and Montenegro, or Spain and Morocco, and so on, are great options.

You should keep an eye out for flash sales, group deals, or sign up for email newsletters from your favorite airlines and travel websites and bloggers. Airlines and travel companies often offer discounts and special deals on flights, hotels, and packages that can help you save money on your trip. For example, Jetblue offers regular flash sales.

If you work remotely or are an entrepreneur and have the luxury of being flexible with your travel dates, travel during the off-season, when fewer tourists are around. This can help you save you money on flights, hotels, and attractions. You can also save money by traveling on weekdays instead of weekends.

Lastly, consider staying in budget-friendly accommodations, like Airbnb or boutique hotels to save money on your accommodation expenses. In many countries other than the United States, these are surprisingly good! During my time in Mexico, Central America and South America I was able to stretch my travel budget by staying at affordable Airbnb properties. By following these tips, you can see much more of the world for much less money!
